Flip the Switch

Hello! Well, I have got a good story for the blog today! I think it would be best to illustrate in a time line since the details are so fresh. Enjoy!

June 10 - Michael's birthday and our first partial power outage. Electrician & power company come by and both give us the "okay" to go on vacation without worrying about our power going off.

June 14 - Arrive back from vacation after traveling and standing in at least 15 lines over the course of the day (and sitting in the back seat of the airplane next to the restroom) to a VERY hot house. Power finally goes off for good and Michael heads out to Peachtree City to check in to his temporary home (which just so happens to be a very fancy resort!) and our smoke detector beeps every minute and a half for the entire night.

June 15 - Power company & electrician come back out and finally find the problem. We get a generator from GA Power and are in business! No more 90 degree temps inside our house!

June 20 - Lights start flickering

June 21 - We wake up and the temperature inside the house is high. When we get back from church we are in the 90's and discover our power is out... AGAIN! Power company comes, digs up our yard, finds the problem and restores full power. We visit Jo & Barry's house and had 4 flavors of ice cream! Then come home to a 95 degree house. Mike & I both go a little crazy and call every number we have for the A/C company. Then we wait.....

June 22 - We wake up to a 89 degree house and get good news that the A/C company is coming out between 12 & 6. 6 cool showers, 5 ice packs, 3 dog biscuits, 2 hot cats & 1 phone call later, the A/C technician comes out and fixes our problem that we have been dealing with for almost 2 weeks in about 15 seconds.

Now, the house is down to the low 80's and it feels amazing compared to the 100 degree mark we hit earlier today! This is my public vow to never take A/C for granted again! Thank you Lord for answering our prayers and standing by us through some ungraceful moments brought on my extreme heat!

Mike & Jana's tips for surviving an A/C outage in the middle of summer:
  • Ice packs are your friend!
  • Cold showers and baths are wonderful!
  • Overheated foam mattresses can feel like you are sleeping in a skillet, so sleep on the floor if possible.
  • Keep windows not facing the sun open and those facing the sun closed.
  • Drink lots of water and get a good lawn chair because you will be enjoying mother nature more because it will be cooler outside than in your house.
  • Visit the swimming pool!
